(A Little Ride Continued) The air was sweet and in the mid 70’s for most of the first 200 miles only warming to the 90’s as we approached Salt Lake City. Just as we were nearing North Salt Lake City, Jack Fry notified Tom he was getting a couple of warning lights flashing yellow and red on his dash. Tom plugged Harley Dealership into the GPS and in a few minutes we were pulling up to a Harley Dealership to have the trike looked at. The repair was estimated to be a two and half hour set back but none of us was in any hurry, besides, it gave us ample time to walk around, grab an early evening meal and plain relax. Almost exactly to the minute, 2 ˝ hours later we were back on I-15 north heading for our turnoff to Highway 89/91 to Logan. The road to Logan took us over a small mountain green pasture and into a farming belt of Utah. Arriving at Logan we checked into Super 8 Motel to make ready for the next day’s ride to Jackson, Wyoming. After a continental breakfast furnished by the hotel the ride group was ready to hit the road. We continued out of Logan on Hwy.89 through the Mount Naomi Wilderness and the Beaver Mountain Ski areas. At a rest stop at the summit we got a spectacular view of Bear Lake far below us as it sort of glued Utah to Idaho. While taking in the scenery a young gal came over to where Tom and I were sitting. She asked how we were, and of course my sick sense of humor had to kick in. We were at an elevation where breathing was a little difficult for this big boy after any exercise so here she was in a white dress, cool mountain air, so the utterance from my lips “Oh God they sent us an Angel” This young lady was part of a church group doing missionary work. She and her husband were vacationing from Astoria, Oregon. We exchanged greetings, plans for the day and said good bye. We had a friendly meeting in full view of God’s country. We continued the winding road down to Garden City and the foot of Bear Lake where the bikes were topped off with fuel. |

Continuing on Hwy. 89 north we rode through scenic and small country town sites. The two lane road with a speed limit of 55 would let you know you were nearing a town by reduction of speed zones to 25mph. The weather was very comfortable in the mild 70’s and low 80’s. As we neared the town of Afton it was getting to be time for another gas stop and since it was nearing the noon hour a bite to eat would be good. Entering the city of Afton the traveler is greeted by an archway made entirely of antlers and not but a few yards away from the Elkhorn Restaurant. It was here that our group decided to stop. As we entered we were given a friendly greeting |

by our waitress Patty and informed that their specialty was the sourdough hamburger patty melt. The three of us that did order the special were all in agreement that this was a great choice. For all of you fellow Blue Knights and motorcycle enthusiasts if you are riding in this scenic part of our country, mark the Elkhorn Restaurant as a good down home country kitchen.
